Voodoo Queens were formed by Anjali, who left as drummer of Mambo Taxi and took up singing/shouting duties. Again part of the UK Riot Grrrrl scene Voodoo Queens were lauded as being one of the few Asian bands, along with Cornershop who were able to break into the UK mainstream. It was felt within the band however their background sometimes was more important than the music to those who wrote for such publications as NME.
